Got A Little Behind on Daily Posts So Catch Up Day is Here!

So this will be a slightly longer Daily Post today because I got behind/lazy over the weekend and didn’t keep up my posts…:) So I am going to do Days 5, 6, and 7 today all in one.

DAY 5: Hook ’em with a quote – “Life is not the breaths you take, but the moments that take your breath away” – George Strait. This is a quote that I live by daily in my life. It is always in the back of my mind. The song from George talks about not letting the little things go by without experiencing them. Before we lost Big Bubby, there were days that I would have to miss things with my kids because of work responsibilities. That no longer is the case. My family will always come first from now on. I don’t want to be the one at the end of my life saying “I wish I had spent more time….”

No one should have that regret at the end. We all work too hard these days to miss out on what the most important part is, what we are working for, our family.  That could be you and your pet, or you, your spouse and kids, or just you and your spouse. It doesn’t matter, always remember what is important and focus on that.

DAY 6: The space where I write my blogs – I write my blogs typically at lunch at work. I can shut my door and be alone for a while to write. I also write some at home setting on the couch watching mindless TV shows with my husband. I don’t really have a “special place” that I write at. I think that maybe if I did I would be better at it. I would focus more one the body of my blog. Being new to this how blogging experience is still giving me new experiences so maybe I will figure out a place that is quiet and peaceful to write each one I do.  I need to start thinking about that.and when I am writing. I am not a morning person but maybe getting up early in the morning before going to work would be a peaceful time to write.

DAY 7: Let social media inspire me – We were asked to take a Twitter comment no write about it. There were several to choose from but this one touched me.

“You study, study, study, and in the end, you are lucky enough to discover the greatest gift of education: that you know nothing at all.” E.J. Koh

When you are fresh out of college, you think that you have been taught all you need to know about the field of study that you have entered into and received your degree in. Some even receive dual degrees or minors in areas. You believe that when you get that job that you have dreamed about for the years you were in school that it is going to be like it is in the movies! I hate to be the one to bust your bubble but….WRONG….that is not the way the world works. College, yes, it teaches you the book smarts to be able to go into a job and learn how to work. College doesn’t teach you the true day to day inter-workings of a business. Every business and every industry is different. So you go four or five years depending on if you get your bachelors or masters degree and then College says, good-by and good luck! Or at least that was my experience. In today’s world I think Colleges at least try to point you in a direction. But still just know, everything that you learned and think you know, when you sit down at your first desk, which will most likely be a cube not a true office, you will feel like you know nothing.

Give yourself time to adapt to the real world of working, you will find your niche and you will be great. Just don’t expect to be on the same level as those who have come before you and are 10, 20, 30 years in front of you. Learn from them, be sponge and soak up all they will teach you. That way, 20 years from now, you can show that college student freshly graduated what it is all about!

  1. Ha, Ha……in this day and age you may be starting and ending in a cubicle vs. office…..However, yes, there is always much to learn, many people to meet, MANY things to learn from the real world experience after college. Also…..many life long colleagues and friends to be made!!
